Why is My Dad so Overbearing? It is encouraging to see a dedicated Christian young lady, like yourself, dating a dedicated Christian young man. In today's world, many dedicated teenagers are getting mixed up with an unbelieving boyfriend or girlfriend. They then end up turning their back on their faith and eventually wrecking their lives.
The world of parents is a confusing world, until you enter into that world for yourself and then it all starts to make sense. God says that children are a heritage and a gift from God, but with this great gift comes a HUGE responsibility. Parents are to teach and train up their children, until they become adults and leave their father and mother and join unto their husband or wife. Each year that passes by, is a year closer to that day when a father gives his little girl away and a mother is replaced by another woman.
As proud parents of a nine and a four year old boy, my wife and I love to see our sons growing up. We dislike turning them lose on this world, with all its temptations and sins. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on parents to raise good, Godly, Christian children in this sinful world.
Your dad is probably having a tough time watching you grow up and begin to date in this world of temptation and sin. This could be the reason why he seems a bit overbearing to you lately.
I suggest that you and your dad set aside sometime each month to do things that you and him used to do. I also suggest sitting down with your dad and discussing your intentions and set up some boundaries for your dating life. This will help ease his mind and show him that you are dedicated to keeping yourself pure until marriage. Be respectful, be patient and hang in there. We are praying for you!
